Hi I’m Kate! A digital artist and Illustrator specializing in portrait art. My Art journey is a bit different than your typical “started doodling while bored in math class as a kid” kind of story. My journey started much later in life under quite unusual circumstances. I didn’t necessarily enjoy art as a child and was not naturally talented in this area. It wasn’t until I sustained a severe brain injury in 2021 that my art story begins.

Everything was dark at this time. I could be standing out in full sunshine without a cloud in the sky and still feel like I was in the middle of the blackest hole in the darkest corner of the universe. I remembered seeing art work that was digitally painted using the Procreate app and thinking it was stunningly beautiful. While I may not have been artistically gifted, I had an eye for beauty and I suddenly began to dream of creating soft, beautiful, bright and happy paintings that would be light and uplifting to not just me, but to anyone who came across my work. The verse Philippians 4:8 came across my mind which says:

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”

This became my inspiration. I wanted to draw things that were pure and lovely… admirable and excellent. I learned that these are the things we should set our minds on regardless of our circumstances and that’s what I would set out to do. Shortly after, I purchased an Ipad, downloaded the Procreate app, and as they say, the rest is history!

After 14 months of being almost completely non functional, I was finally able to look at a screen again without feeling like I was looking through someone else’s strong prescription lenses. My vision was stabilizing and I was finally able to go at least 3 mins without crying.

  • Jesus saved my life

  • I’m a Mom of 2 Boys, one of which is on the Autism spectrum

  • I once (at age 10) thought I could parachute out of a tree using a kitchen trash bag with handles. Apparently… You can’t.

  • I have diagnosed ADHD and undiagnosed high functioning Autism

  • I am familiar with depression and anxiety and I know after sustaining a brain injury from discontinuing them that antidepressants are never the answer. I am on year four of recovering from this brain injury and still have eons to go… Yes this is possible, yes it it much more common than you think, and no, your doctor will not recognize this.

    A few more thoughts if you haven’t heard enough:

  • My Cat is the best therapist I have ever been to and seems to be much more qualified.

  • God continues to put lavender colored “Morning Glories” in my yard at every house we move to. (There’s a story behind that… Maybe I will tell you some day)

  • I am a Texas Longhorns football fan through and through… Hook em Horns!

    A few rants… DON’T READ!

  • Anne of Green Gables, Little house on the Prairie, All Creatures Great and small. That’s about all thats worth turning on the tv for these days.

  • I don’t like how “Dark” the art world can be. We have enough darkness in this world thank you! We don’t need any more.

  • I’m convinced that no one really actually likes Beer… It’s just not possible
